Target Population:

Mid-Life African Americans

  • Nutrition Education Class on "Food Label Reading" when both cooking at home and eating outside of the home.

  • Activity was undertaken as Partner for the "Healthy Brain Championship" Workshops.

2010 National Children & Youth Garden Symposium
 
"The Vitality of Gardens: Energizing The Learning Environment" in Pasadena California.

Target population:

Attendees who participate in the only national symposium that explores the positive impact of gardens in the lives of children and youth.

  • Poster session presentation, "Food Web Mobile & Activity Guide Tool Kit."

  • Activity was undertaken to share gardening and science focused activities designed for 4th , 5th, and 6th graders.

Target Population:

70 Stakeholders from around the Southern California Region.

  • Participant of the Los Angeles Urban-Rural Roundtable. In September 2009, Mayor Villaraigosa launched a Food Policy Task Force charged with identifying ways in which the City of Los Angeles could support the regional food economy and improve access to healthy food in underserved communities.

  • Contribution to the "Defining Healthy Food Restaurant Project." This project is an outgrowth of the expiration of the fast food interim control ordinance (ICO) in South Los Angeles which temporarily prohibits new stand alone fast food restaurant development.

  •  Contribution to strategic plan currently under development to  determine the services to be provided to the target population.
 
Bell (CA) Shelter Garden Project
 
Target Group: Families in residential housing.
  • Development of "Nutrition Facts-Fruits and Vegetables Commonly Harvested in Southern California". This reference guide provides nutrition facts on the fiber and vitamin content of 50 different produce items commonly harvested in Southern California.
